Ingredients List

To make these delectable Red Velvet Biscotti, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour (ensure to spoon into your measuring cup to avoid packing)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
  • 2 oz liquid red food color or 2 tbsp gel food color
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heart sprinkles

Timing

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 50 minutes
Cooling Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: Approximately 1 hour 25 minutes

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures your biscotti will bake evenly, achieving that perfect crunchy texture.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

In a mixer bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa, food color, baking powder, and salt. Start on the slowest setting (stir) to blend them thoroughly.

Step 3: Prepare Wet Ingredients

In a separate small bowl, lightly beat the eggs with the vanilla extract using a fork. This will help incorporate the flavors smoothly into your dough.

Step 4: Combine Mixtures

Add the egg mixture to the dry ingredients in the mixer. Mix well until fully combined. Expect the dough to be sticky but firm.

Step 5: Add Chocolate Chips

Gently fold in the white chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Step 6: Shape the Dough

Divide the dough in half for two large loaves or create three medium-sized loaves. Shape each portion into a rectangle on a lightly floured surface.

Step 7: Initial Bake

Place the shaped logs onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the tops are set.

Step 8: Slice and Second Bake

Reduce the oven temperature to 300°F (150°C). Allow the logs to cool slightly, then slice them into ½ – 1 inch thick slices. Lay the slices on their sides on the baking sheet and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Flip the slices and bake for another 8-10 minutes.

Step 9: Cool and Decorate

Once baked, cool the biscotti on a wire rack. If desired, decorate with heart sprinkles for an extra festive touch.
