  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup chopped pecans (for topping)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
  • 1/3 cup flour (for topping)
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter (for topping)
  • Optional: mini marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Boil sweet potatoes until tender, then drain and mash.
  3. In a large bowl, mix mashed sweet potatoes, melted butter, brown sugar, eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Spread the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine pecans, brown sugar, flour, and melted butter to make the topping.
  6. Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden.
  8. If using marshmallows, add them during the last 10 minutes of baking and toast until golden.

Notes

For extra depth of flavor, roast the sweet potatoes instead of boiling them to enhance their natural sweetness.
