  • ¼ cup margarine
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (scooped lightly)
  • 1 box instant vanilla pudding (3.4 ounces)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (plus more for topping)
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips (plus more for topping)
  • 1 cup Valentine M&M’s (divided)

Timing

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Chill Time: Overnight
Baking Time: 9-12 minutes
Total Time: Approximately 24 hours

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Cream the Butter and Sugars

In a mixer bowl, beat together the butter, margarine, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Step 2: Add Wet Ingredients

Add the egg and vanilla extract to the creamed mixture and beat well until fully combined.

Step 3: Incorporate Dry Ingredients

Gradually add the flour, instant vanilla pudding mix, baking soda, and salt. Stir slowly at first, then beat until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 4: Add Chocolate and M&M’s

Gently stir in the semi-sweet and white chocolate chips, followed by folding in half of the Valentine M&M’s.

Step 5: Chill the Dough

Remove the beater, cover the dough, and refrigerate overnight. This step is crucial for achieving the perfect texture.

Step 6: Preheat and Prepare

The next day, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll the dough into balls, pressing firmly due to the chilled firmness.

Step 7: Bake the Cookies

Place the dough balls on a lined baking sheet and bake for 9-12 minutes. They are typically perfect at 11 minutes. Immediately top each cookie with additional chocolate chips and M&M’s.

Step 8: Cool and Enjoy

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet. Repeat the process with the remaining dough, ensuring each batch starts on a cold cookie sheet.
